Why should you care about SEO? It helps your practice to rank higher in search engines, which makes it more likely that potential customers will come to your website early in their search when they are thinking about their hearing loss. In turn, this means they are more likely to contact you regarding your services.

A solid SEO strategy also helps build brand awareness for your business. People who use search engines implicitly trust sites which are on first page of search engine results pages than ones which are on subsequent pages.

With these benefits to SEO in mind, here are the Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to SEO for your practice.

The DOs

Publish new content on a regular basis

Search engines really like websites that produce fresh content and reward your site higher up the rankings when you do. An ideal way to do this is with a blog (very much like this one!) which has information on topics related to hearing loss. You’ll also be able to use these blog pages to advertise specific services related to the blog. Is your article about the five signs of hearing loss? It’s natural to encourage the user to schedule a hearing test at the end of the text.

Find the right keywords

The right keywords are crucial to your SEO campaign. They should be relevant to your site’s content, have a good search volume, and ideally have less competition. As long as your target keywords meet these criteria, it’s a great start. It’s not always possible to fulfil all these requirements but you should have them in mind when thinking of yours.

Also consider long-tail keywords. Experts say that long-tail keywords cover nearly 70 percent of all queries that individuals search on Google. And according to research produced by Ahrefs, the majority of Google searches have 3+ words in them. It means that long-tail keywords bring more quality traffic to your website as opposed to simple short keywords. Highly specific multi-word phrases usually rise up the rankings easier than the more generic single keyword or double keyword phrases. By focusing on your niche and location, you are able to target the customers who are looking for hearing healthcare in your area.

Page optimization

Go into your website and optimize every page for search traffic. It might involve steps like these:

  • Cleaning up the content
  • Adding alt tags to images
  • Compressing file sizes of your pages
  • Adding titles and meta descriptions
  • Interlinking pages together using anchor text

Following web development best practices will help you achieve higher search ranking for your preferred target keywords.

The DON’Ts

Purchase Links

Backlinks are important in SEO, but you should refrain from buying them. Google has algorithms which sees through this practice easily, penalizing your search rankings accordingly, or in some cases removing your site altogether. Instead of buying backlinks, see if you can get them naturally using content creation. High-quality content on your website encourages other users and websites to link back to it.

Rely on only your backlinks

Another tip with backlinks is not to rely too much on them. They are very important, but it’s best to choose quality over quantity. It’s better to get fewer links from websites with a domain authority of 30+. Too many links at once might be seen as link baiting by search engines. Google might consider a large amount of links to or from other websites as evidence of a gray/black hat SEO strategy. So, be careful not to overdo them!

Use black hat techniques

Speaking of black hat tricks, we recommend not using them.

As black hat SEO techniques become more popular, Google finds the technique either manually or through an algorithm. They then update their algorithm to remove the benefit of the technique or reduce the visibility of websites that use it. If you are found to be using it, you search rankings will suffer.

A good example of what not to do is keyword ‘stuffing’. This is the practice of inserting as many of the keywords into your content as possible. Filling pages with keywords results in a negative user experience, and is heavily penalized by Google and other search engines.

We hope these tips have illuminated some of the behind-the-scenes work on a successful, high-ranking website! We understand that your focus is providing quality hearing health care, and a major part of that is reaching the people who are seeking your services. Creating regular, quality, fresh content on clean webpages with the right keywords will ensure your hearing practice rises up the rankings!
